NOMINATION OF COUNCILLORS.
The annual’nomination'of Councillors took placo at the terrace of the Provincial Government Buildings at noon to day. Two Councillors were to be elected by each ward, and .two auditors by the whole Ci'y. There were about t 2oojpeoplo present, and the proceedings Were very tatne. The Town Clerk road the following nominations SOUTH WARD. Henry Smith Pish, jon., proposed by Wk, Edwd. Coublns, seconded by John Guthrib. John Tonkins Roberts, proposed by James Mills, seconded by James Manning. HIGH WARD. Barnard Isaac, proposed by Norman Wood, seconded by Edwa< d K. M’Liskey. Heury John Walter, proposed by James B. Sbadshaw, seconded by Andrew M'Fablane. bell ward. John Bryce Thomson, proposed byf Andrew Lees, seconded by W®- Biltfii William Woodland, proposed by Andrew Anderson, seconded by Moss Moss. ~ tiEtra Warb. Frank PeU, proposed by H6BEET WILSON, seconded by John Bamann. The Mayor (Mr Walter) declared Messrs Pish and Roberts duly elected for South Ward : Mr B. Isaac and himself for High Ward; MvSStS Thomson and Woodland for Bell Word. For Leith Wa d there being more than two candidates, a poll will be taken ou the Ist pro*. For auditors a poll will also he taken on the sani& day, . Messrs Roberts, Walter (on behalf of himself and Mr Fish), Isaac, Woodland, and Thomson returned thanks for their election, Mr Wilkinson expressed surprise at there being ai election In Leith ward. He wis not agate till this morning that Mr Reeves had intended coming forward again. However he had commenced a canvass of the City, and he intended to go on with the election. Mf Qrlux said that through some misunderstanding there was a contested election. He wjw quite willing to go to the poll. • Mr Skives, in offering tis serviewi for that most “ (M City. He hoped when the mayoral contest took place, on August 3rd, Leith .. iia ratepayers would do their very best to return him as Mayor. The usual compliment to the Mayor for presiding terminated the proceedings.
