CITY POLICE COURT.
Thursday, July 13. (Before K. Ramsay, Esq., and J. Hislop, Esq., J.P.'s)
Drunkenness.—Jas. M'Donald, for this offence, was fined ss, or twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Prostitution.—Alice Macnatnara was charged with conducting herself in a disorderly manner and with being a prostitute. Constable Walker deposed that he saw accused last night, about ten o'clock, in Walker street creating a disturbance and clothed in a sailor s suit. He was prevented from arresting her at the time by the inter ference of a man named Andrew Morrison and a young lad named Alexande&Locker. He, however, subsequently arrested her.— Charles Cooper, agent, was called from his house to assist .Constable Walker in the, arrest, but was prevented from doing so by the man and boy above named. Accused was attired in a man's clothes. He knew her to be a very bad character.—Sergeant Bevan believed that accused was one of Mrs Howard's importation, and had never known her to do any work since her arrival here.— Accused, who Would have had the Beach to believe that she had led a moral life, Was sentenced to two months'imprisonment.— Mary Allen, who stated that she had prayed for death for the last ten years, was charged with the same offence as the last accused. She pleaded hard for a dismissal, but ceived three months' imprisonment. Obstructino the Police.—Andrew Morrison and Alexander Locker (about fourteen years old) pleaded .guilty to the • aboVe offence.—Constable Walker and Charles Cooper stated that the accuseds were the parties who debarred them from arresting Macnamarra.—lnspector Mallard said that the boy was always tn the company of prostitutes in Machin's right-of-way. It was riot for the purpose 6f having him punished that he had him brought before their Worships, but thit he might be made a caution to others.—Their Worships dismissed both the accused, but not without administering a severe reprimand to the boy for the bad career he was following.
