HONOR TO WHOM HONOR IS DUE.

To the editor.

Sir, —By last mail we learn that our indefatigable agent, Mr James Adams, has sailed by the William Davie. Would it not then be a recognition of his eminent services to the Province, and an antidote to the vile slanders propogated by Messrs Grant and' Scotland that a suitable reception be given to Mr Adams upon landing ? Let the citizens prepare a banquet, and let the working classes, whom he has so much benefitted, give him a cordial welcome. There are now among us hundreds in possession of freehold farms, and artisans and laborers with freehold sections and cottages, who would never have owned a foot of land in the Home country. In the mode of living the contrast is still more striking. Here the working classes have flesh-ineat in abundance three times a day, when in the Home country they could only see it once a year—on Hansel Monday or at Christmas, and then in quantity which would only make a decent mouthful to a Colonial. Mr Grant may slander the Colony as to the condition of the working classes here, but I know for a certainty that if Mr Grant were in his native parish instead of being now plump and fat—selling slanderous literature—h» would have been half-starving, living on stirabout, potatoes, and salt.—l am, &c, Old Identity. Dunedin, July 11.
