TRIAL TRIP OP THE IRON AGE,

Messrs Boum.in, Macandrew. and Co.'a p.s. Iron Ago, built principally for towing yurposes and to be used in the summer timo ou the Portobello trade, made a trial trip to the Heads and back this afterBoon. Abfut 100 persons accepted an invitation from the owners and accompanied the steamer on her trip, a start being made from tho Rattray street wharf at one o'clock. The Iron Age's measurements are :—Length overhaul, 96ft beam, 15ft; hold, 6ft 9in. She is 30 h.p. nominal, but is capable of working up to a good deal more ; and is fitted with two compound engiues—one bisrh and one low pressure. Sho is also fitted with Steven's compound engir.es. Sparrow and Henderson were the builders," and the engines were made l-y Davidson and Co. The A<?e was started about tho uriddlo of December, and launched in March. She has made iwo or three trips, and was found to make f;ar speed; but the engiues avo rather stiff at present. Captain Densem was in command. The Iron Age did not reach Port, Chalmers till throe o'clook, tho wind and tide being against her. Sho did not go to the Heads. Tho weather Aias very cold.
