CHEIBTCHURCH, Jldjt4. The young salmon were countedto-day and the total number alive was found to be 175.
At the Supreme Court yesterday Alfred Bishop was charged with maliciously wounding a sheep. He was killing sheep when one became unmanageable, and he deliberately cut off its nose, cut both its ears out, turned it back into the pen, and killed nine others before putting it out of its misery. Judge Johnston expressed strong abhorrence of the crime, but sentenced prisoner to only three months’ imprisonment.
New Plymouth, July 5. The ‘ Taranaki Herald ’ publishes another of Grant’s letters, in which he says the Go vernment and its agents are trying to damage his “fair fame and credit.” He says Dunedin is literally swarming with fallen women, of whom not less than 500 are there.
Nelson, July 5. Mr Charles Elliott, Immigration Officer and original proprietor of the ‘ Nelson Examiner,’ dropped down dead this morning while going to the port to proceed on board the ship Camperdown.
