The steamer Samson arrived from Oamaru on Saturday evening. The Union Company's steamer Maori sailed last evening for her usual monthly trip to West Coast ports, via the Bluff.

The steamers Ino, from Port Molyneux, Express, f om the Bluff, and Taiaroa, from Timaru, arrived yesterday forenoon and steamed up the harbor to Dunedin.

Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood's s.s. Arawata left Wellington a* 3.50 p.m. on tho 30th, and arrived at Lyttelton at 7.40 a.m. on the Ist inst.; left at C3O p.m., and arrived at Port Chalmers at 10.45 a m. yesterday. We thank Mr Miller (purser) for report and exchanges. Messrs M'Meckan and Blackwood's ss. Ringaroonna, with the Suez mail, arrived from Melbourne, via the Bluff, at 7a m. yesterday. The Otago portion of the mail was immediately landed and conveyed to Dunedin hy special train at 7.30 a.m. Tlic Riugarooma left Molbaurne at 2.30 p.m. on the 26th, passed Swan Island at noon next day, and arrived at the Bluff at 6 a.m. on the Ist inst., left, at 4 p.m., and arrived as above. Wc thank Mr Jtigo for report and exchanges. The s.s. Easby, from Newcastle and Sydney, via Wellington and Lyttelton, an ived along ide the new pier at 3 p.m. on Saturday. She loft Newcastle on the 18th ult. with 1,500 tons of coal and arrived at Sydney on the 17th; took on board 200 tons of general cargo, and left for Wellington on the 20th • had moderate winds for tho first twenty-four hours! when she encountered a most furious gale, which came first from the N.E. backing round to S.E and finally settling at S.S.W.. blowing with hurricane force and with a tremendous sea; the vessel was kept away to the N.E. with the sea on her quarter uutil the gale modern'ed on the 2ith, after she had driven nearly as far north as the latitude of tho North Cape; arrived at Weilington at 8 a.m. on the 27th, discharged 400 tons of coal and 100 tons general cargo, and loft agai.i at midnight on the 28th ; arrived at Lyttelton at 8 30 p.m. next day, discharged 50 tons cargo, nnd left for Port Chalmers at 2 p.m. on tho 30th, arriving as above. °

The Union Company's stenmer Beautiful Star, from Lyttelton, via intermediate ports, arrived at 11 p.m. on tho Ist inst. She left Lyttelton at 5 p.m. on the 29th ult, and called at Akaroa, Timaru, and Yellow Bluff, at which latter place she took on board 1,100 sacks of grain, for transhipment te the s.s Arawata.

Messrs Cargills, Qibbs, and Co., have received a telegram notifying the arrival at London of the Canterbury on May 27, in eighty-six days, and the Calypso on May 26 in ninety-two days. The ketch Anne, with a full cargo of cemont transhipped from the ship Zuleika, sailed this morniug for Oamaru. Messrs M'Meckau, Blackwood's s.s. Ringarooma with cargo and passengers, sailed this afternoon for Nelson, via Wellington and Lyttelton.
