IMMIGRATION.
Amongst the Parliamentary papers received is a return of immigration -from Ist June, 1875, to 31st May, 1876. In all sixty vessels were despatched to this Colony, of which number eleven were for Otago, five for Napier, four for Nelson, eight for Auckland, ten for Wellington, twelve for Canterbury, two for Timaru, three for Taranaki, and five for the Bluff. The distribution of the number in the various Provinces has been:—
16,612 ... 14,077 ... 71,002 ... 59,011 The nationalities of the above are :—English, 38,341; Irish, 14,435; Scotch, 11,500; French, 260; Germans, 2,554 ; Danes, 1,885; Swedes, 663; Norwegians, 668; Italians, 238; others, 458. The vessels which sailed for Port Chalmers were :
