The s.s. Shag, from Shag Point, arrived yesterday afternoon.

The brigantine Ethel, with a full cargo of timber from Kiapara, was towed up last evening by the s.s. Jane and anchored off Carey's Bay. She left Kaipara on the 22nd inst. with a strong N.W. gale, accompanied with heavy rain, thunder, and lightning. Captain M'Leod reports the only vessel loading at Kaipara for this port when he left was the Kosanna Rose. The Ethel was towed uj> to Dunedin this forenoon by the's.s. Jane.

The steamers Maori and Geelong, having received a thorough overhaul, were taken out of the Graving Dock this morning, and the Albion Company's ship Wellington was taken in to be cleaned and recoated.

The Albion Company's steamer Taiaroa sailed last evening for Timaru.

The Union Company's s.s. Wellington, from Northern Ports, arrived alongside the new pier at 9.30 this morning. After landing 61 bales of wool, she steamed np to Dunedin to discharge cargo. She left the Manukau at 11 a.m. en tho 25th, and called at Taranaki, Nelson, Wellington, and Lytteltou. We thank Mr M'Cormick (purser) for report and exchanges.
