FRIENDLY SOCIETIES CONFERENCE.

The adjourned meeting of Friendly- Societies delegates was held in the Oddfellows' Hall last night. Mr A. T. Anderson was .in the chair, and there was a large attendance of delegates. The following amendments were agreed to :

Section 13, clause 3 : "That a further subsection (d) be added to tlr's section, as follows :— * Takes or lends any moneys belonging to any particular fund for any 1 other, fund or purpose, except as maybe provided for.by registered rules of such society."' Clause 14, section 4: "That the words ' without' in the second line be left out.'* And further —"That in place of the word 'trustees,' in the fifth line, there be inserted 'members present at a general or special meeting of the Society or branch." Clause 15, section 1, sub-section A. : liesolved that the Government be requested to increase the rate of interest granted byl'the Ppst Office Savings Bank to Friendly. Societies, and to make such arrangements as will admit of being withdrawn without requiring the personal attendance of trustees or officers. Section 6: After the word " trustees," in the first line, add the words "countersigned by the secretary." It was resolved that clause 16 section 2 of the Imperial A.ct be inserted in the Bill as follows:—"If such mortgage or other as surauce has been registered under any Act for the registration or record of deeds or titles, the Registrar under' such Act, or recording officer, or keeper of the register, shall, on production of such receipt, enter satisfaction on the register of such mortgage or of the charge made by such assurance, and shall grant a certificate either upon such mortgage or assurance, or separately to the like effect, which certificate shall be received in evidence in all Courts, and proceedings without, for the proof, and such registrar, recording officer, or keeper of the register is entitled to a fee of 2s 6d for making the said entry and granting the "said certificate." Clause 25 : For the wordß "two hundred " in the third line, the words " three hundred" to be substituted, and for the words " fifty pounds/' in the fifth line to be inserted the words "seventy-five." After the word " Societies " in the sixth line to be inserted the words "or a sum, in sickness, of 40s per week from such Societies collectively."

Clause 33 : At the end of the clause the following words to be added—"But the employment of such auditors or valuers is not compulsory on any Society." Clause 36 : After the word "effect" in the fifth line, add." and cause copies of such regulations to be sent to every regeistered Society one month previous to being laid before the General Assembly." Clause 7, section 1 : On reconsideration, in paragraph 7, it was resolved that in the second line there be inserted the words LSO in place of the words Lls. On the motion of Mr Braithwaite, seconded by Mr Leslie, it was resolved: 'That the alterations made by the delegates be printed; also, where necessary, a synopsis of the reasons for these resolutions being arrived at, and that copies be sent to Messrs Stout, Bolleston, Ballance, and such other members of Parliament as it may be thought advisable." The business concluded with a vote of thanks to the Chairman for his conduct of the business, and to the Secretary for his services to the Committee.
