WASTE LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Board was held this day; present —Messrs A. C. Strode (in the chair), Butterworth, and Clarke. Messrs Thornley and Murray’s application to erect a shed on the sandhills at St. Kilda for the purpose of refining tallow for export, was refused. The local Corporation wrote objecting to the request being granted. The secretary to the Nevis Jockey Club applied for nineteen acres on run 339, to be set apart as a reserve for a racecourse. The District Land Officer reported on the application. which was referred to the Executive.
Mr John O’Shannassy applied to purchase his residence area adjoining Macraes Township. Sketch required; the D. L. 0. also to report. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Mr D. M‘Master, asked that the upset price of sections 15 to 18, block 6, Kapiti Township, be reduced; also for permission to erect a fence on the line of the sections, on condition that ho waives his claim to compensation for the same. Price reduced to L 3 per acre, and permission given to fence. The Clyde District Land Officer forwarded application by Mr J. P. Alloway to purchase a small piece of land in block 2, Leaning Rock district. Refused. The Chief Commissioner asked the Board’s interpretation of section 54, sub-section 6, as to whether a person holding 80 acres under an exchanged deferred payment lease can also hold 200 acres under an ordinary deferred payment license. Refferred to the Provincial Solicitor for advice.
The Queenstown District Land Officer’s opinion on Mr W. Lara’s application for
alteration in date of hia sawmill lease was approved. The Queenstown 1 /{strict Land Officer forwarded the District Surveyor’s report on, Mr W.-Sabine's application to purchase sections 11 to 36, block 11, Shotover. Refused. - The Switzer’s District Land Officer asked that the next sale of land in Waikaia Hundred may be conducted by Mr J. E. Garvey, clerk to the Bench. Approved. The Switzer's District Land Officer reported on Mr W. Lawrence’s application to purchase twenty acres of Tailing Reserve, block 1, Waikaia.
The St. Kilda Corporation again requested that the Sandhill may be vested in the Council. The Board decided that they were quite unable to comply with the request.
