Messrs M'Meckau, Blackwood, nud Co.’s ss Arawata from Melbourne via tho Bluff, with thirty! three passengers and one hundred ions of cargo for th u port, arrived alongside tho railway pier at seven this morning. She left Melbourne at 2 p.xn. on the 19th, and next day had N.W. wind until 3 a.m. on the 21st, when it shifted to tho south, ward, and increased flth heavy squalls and rain until the morning of t e 23nd, it then blowing with terrific force and a heavy sea. Having stock on board and open hatches she was hove-to under close-reefed mainsail from 7 a.m. on the 22nd until < .30 a.m. on the 23rd, when the gale moderated and ® kept on her course; experienced heavy seas until passing the the West Cape at 3 p.m. on the Solandors at 6 p.m., and arrived at the Bluff at daylight on the 25th.
