LEITH WARD AND PROMISED LAMPS.

To the Hditor

BIB,— Some six weeks since a letter appeared in the 'Times' headed "North George street in Darkness;" also a letter in the Stab complaining of the absence of lamps in Queen street and George street, and calling attention to the manner King street was lighted in comparison. A few days afterwards Cr. Reeves moved for six extra lamps for Leith Ward, which was referred to the Gas Committee, and in their report they recommendf d four extra lamps to be placed between Albany street and Howe street. Up to the present time nothing has been done to stow where they are to be, or is there any indication of anything being done ; and here we may presume we are in the middle of winter, or at any rate the shortest day, and close to our civic elections. Will any of the councillors who have been previously elected for this Ward come forward again and seek re-election, on tho grounds that they have done everything they could for the Ward to the best of their ability ? If their own consciences are satisfied, and they intend to come forward again, let them walk the Ward by night and ask themselves if the streets are properly lighted, and if the ratepayers are not paying for light they do not receive.—l am, &c, ~ A Ratepayer. Dunedin, June 21.
