Pnbllo Notices. FROM the ‘ Supplementary News, ’ printed : by Feigusaoa and. Mitchell, during this Fete in aid of the Benevolent Asylum, on the Premises of !Messrs Guthrie and. Lamach, May 24,1876. —Our Local Industries.—Messrs Hauenrtein Bros, of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, following the example of some of the larvO manufacturers at Homeland more especially with a view ofpreventing the -fan- 1 portation of English clothing, intend opening an extensive Retail Establishment, for the sab of their manufacture?. For this purpose they have fitted up commodious premises at the v corner of the Octagon and Princes street, which are to be opened on Saturday, May 27. This branch will he under the immediate management of Mr Laurenson, and Under the personal supervision of Mr B. Hidlehstein, the head of the N.Z. firm. Messrs Hallenstein Bros. , under the management of Mr Anderson, a partner in the wholesale and factory branch, started the New Zealand Clothing Factory about two and a half years, ago, They commenced on a comparatively small scale ; at present they employ between. 200 and 300 hands. They have had. to overcome many difficulties and much prejudice, but now them goods, as will be seen from the, ships' manifests, are being sent to all parts of New Zealand. In Dunedin only they have found persistent opposition on the part of the larger . houses who are: glutting this market with fan* I ported goods, and, no doubt, the retailers find it to their advantage to push these in prefer- j enoe to local manufactures.. The proprietors of | the New Zealand Clothing Factory have, therefore, very judiciously decided jfcb introduce their manufactures, direct to 1 the large Consulting population of Xnmedin; aud, in.order to do so effectually, they have determined 'to sell a single garment at the wholesale price; • The selling price is to be marked in plain figures on every article, from which no abatement will be made. The business is to be : conducted strictly on the . cash principle, and . all goods must be paid for .on delivery, but any article not found suitable may.be exchanged,; or the money, returned. . As will be seen mhh the gannehts presented by the New Zealand Clothing Pdotbry in aid of the Benevolent Asylum, and now exhibited in this building, they are superior in style and quality, and at a proportionately lower price than anything that can be imported. But, irrespective of au these ad vantages, it is to the interest of everyone to support an industry which, employs local labor, and is a direct benefit to, the butcher, baker, fanner, mechanic, shopkeeper, merchant, and to all sections of tho community.
