Drunkenness.— Jas. -Galloway was fined ss, in default, twenty-four hours’ imprisonment; James Mahone, 10s, or forty-eight hours’.

Mr Denniston defended. —lnspector Mallard: I am in this position : the young, ladies will net attend the Court to give evidence, therefore I cannot go on. If your Worships wish to know why the police interfered—Mr Dehniatdn submitted, that the charge should have been by information. If the police were not prepared to proceed with the case, the Inspector had no right to make a statement which might be taken down and go forth to the public. The charge must either .be proceeded with or abandoned. —The Bench would assume that the Inspector had sufficient grounds for taking action, but the charge must be dismissed. : Fraud. —Edward Beaslqy was charged; on the information of Laac Dexter, tailor, wfth having on June 10th obtained from him by false pretences, a LI bank note.—lnspector Mallard stated that one. of the principal witnesses was the steward of tho steamer Coomerang. The steamer was not here, and he would put prosecutor in the box and then ask for a remand.—Prosecutor stated that Erisoner purchased a suit of clothes from im. When he agreed to purchase the clothes he said that he : had :Ll4 to draw from the Coomerang. On the strength of that representation witness advanced him one pound.—A remand till Monday was granted. . j
