Pnbllo Nottooa. PROM the * Supplementary News,’ printed by Fenpis on and Mitchell during the Fete In aid of the Benevolent Asylum, on the Premises of Messrs Guthrie and Lamach, May 24,1876.—0ur 1 .ooal Industries.—Messrs Hauemtein Bros , of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, following the examp'e of some of the lar.e manufacturers at Dome, and more especially with a view of preventing the importation of English clothing, intend opening an extensive Petail Establishment, for the sale of their manufactures. For this purpose they have fitted up commodious premises at the corner of the Octagon and Princes street, which are to be opened on Saturday, May 27. This branch will he under the immediate management of Mr i.anrenson, and under the personal supervision of Mr B. Hallenstoin, the head of the N.Z. firm. Messrs Hallenstein Bros ; under the management of Mr Anderson, a partner in the wholesale and factory bianch, started the New Zealand Clothing Factory about two and a half years ago.'They, commenced on a comparatively small scale; at present they employ between 200 and 300 hands. They have had to overcome many difficulties and much prejudice, but now their ?;oods, as will be seen from' the ships' manieste, are being sent to all ports of New Zealand.. In Dunedin only they have found persistent opposition on the part of the larger houses woo are glutting this market with imported goods, and, no doubt, the retailers find it to their advantage to push these in preference to local manufactures. The proprietors of the New Zealand Clothing Factory have, there l fore, , very judiciously decided to introduce their manufactures direct to the large consuming population of Dunedin; and, in order to do so effectually, they have determined to sell a single garment at the wholesale price. The selling price is to be marked in plain figures on eveiy article, from which no abatement will 'made. The business is to be conducted | strictlv on the cash p; inciple, and all goods must be paid for on delivery, but any article not found suitible may be exchanged, or the money returned. As will be seen from the garments presented by the New Zealand Clothing Factory in aid of the Benevolent Asylum, and now exhibited in this building, they are superior in stylo and quality, and at a proportionately lower price than anything that can be imported. But, irrespective of au these advantages, it is to the interest of everyone to support an industry which employs local labor, and is a direct benefit to the butcher, baker, fanner, mechanic, shopkeeper, merchant, and to all sections of the community.
