, PabUo Nottoea, fr «id of the Benevolent Asylum, on the Messrs Guthrie end Lamaoh. H-aUeneteinßros, of the NewZealanddothinr Factory, following the example of nome oli 1116 , ,£* nianufacturereat Home, andmore esp edally with a view of preventing the importion of English clothing* intera opening auextensive Retail Establishment, forthemie of their manufacturer. For this purpose they have fitted up commodious premises 'at the own«r of tire Octagon and Princes' street, which are to be opened on Saturday, May 27. This branch will oa under the immediate management of Mr -Lahrensoh, and under the perwmal supervision of Mr B. Hattensteln, the head of the N>Z ( firm. Messrs Bros.,.under the management of'Mr Adder* son, a partner in the wholesale and factory branch, started the New Zealand Clothing Factory about two and a-half yeanago. They commenced on a comparatively mnaq at present they employ between 200 arid3oo hands. They have had to overcome many difficulties and much prejudice, but noW thengoods, as will be seen from the ships’ inaid* teste, are being sent to all parte of New Zealand. In Dunedin only they have found per* sistent opposition on the part of the larger houses wap are glutting this market with imported goods, and, no doubt, the retailers find it to their advantage to push these in preference to loud manufactures. The proprietors of the New Zealand Clothing Faotoxyhaw; therefore, very judiciously decided to introduce their manufactures direct' to tiie large consuming population of Dunedin : and, in order to do bo effectually, they .have determined to sell a tingle garment at the wholesale pri 3d. The seUmg price is to be marked in plain'figures oh every article, from which op abatement trill be made. The business is to be conducted strictly on the cash principle, and ml goods must be paid > for on delivery, but any article not found suitable may be exchanged, or the money returned. As will be seen from the garments presented ,bv the New Zeeland Clothing Factory in aid of the Benevolent Asylum, and now exhibited in tifis building, they are superior in style and quality, and at a proportionately lower .price than anything that can be imported. But, irrespective of all these advantage*, it is to the interest ofeveryone to rapport an industry which employs local labor, and is a direct benefit to, the butcher, baker, farmer, mechanic, shopkeeper, merchant, and to all sections of tiie community.
