LATE ITEMS.

The Harbor Board this afternoon opened the tenders for the construction of its new sheds adjoining Rattray street Jetty. The tenders were twenty in number, and they ranged from L 2,539 4s 2d (Mr H. Reid) to L 3.874. They will be considered at a future meeting of the Board. The confidence we entertained of the capability of the Milton Pottery Company to produce really good articles in earthenware is quite justified by the result. We have to-day seen .drain-pipes and flower-pots, of excellent quality £nd manufacture, although made before their appliances were complete. When all the machinery is in working order, the finish will be fully equal to the quality of the goods.

Wo are informed that Mr M‘Laren, on behalf of a number of practical mechanics, preseeted a memorial to-day to his Honor the Superintendent os followsWe, the undersigned practical mechanics in the City of Dunedin, respectfully draw your Honor’s attention to the fact that we are convinced that some under' and work is going oh, inasmuch as certain locomotives have been constructed Mthout being duly and legally tendered for, and we most respectfully request your Honor to investigate matters.” -There were between 80 and 100 signatures attached. His Honor promised an early reply to the memorial.
