Wallace, Willow Lodge, Maclaggan street PnbUo Notices. FROM the * Supplementary News,’ tainted by Feigusron and Mitchell, during'-the Fete in aid of the , Benevolent Asylum, on the Premises of Messrs Guthrie wad Lamach, May 24,1876. —Our Local Industries.—Messrs Hallenstein Bros of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, following the example of some of the manufacturers at Homeland more especially with a view of preventing the importation of English clothing, intend opening an extensive Retail for the sale of' thebr manufacture*. For this purpose they hate fitted op--commodious premises at' the corner..of the Octagon . and Princes street, which are to be opened bn Saturday, May 27. This branch trill' be under the immediatethahagement .of, Mr Latirenson, and under the personal supervision of Mr B. Hallenstein, the head of the N.Z. firm. Messrs Hallenstein Bros., under the management of'Mr Anderson, a, partner. in-the wholesale and factory branch, started the New Zealand Clothing Factory about two and a half years ago.- They commenced on -a. comparatively small-scale: at present they employ between 200 and 300 hands. They have had to overcome ‘many difficulties and much prejudice, buthovrthfcu: !:oods, as will be seen from the ships' manlssts, are being sent to all parts of New Zealand. In found persistent opposition on the part of the, larger houses who are glutting this market'- win Imported goods, and, no. doubt,' -the retailers find them advantage to push these in preference to local manufactures..' The proprietors of the New Zealand Clothing Factory have, therefore, very, judiciously decided to introduce their manufactures direetto the large consuming population of Lonmin; and, inordfer ib do bo effectually, they have determined to sell a single garment at the wholesale price.. The Belling price is to be marked in plain figores on every a&icle, from 1 which no abatement trill \ be. made. The business .is to be conducted] strictly on the cash, principle, and all] goods! must be pud for on delivery, but any article; not found suitable may be exofcmgea, or the i' money returned. As willbe seen frem the garments presented by tihe New Zealand, Clothing Factory in aid of the BendVolent j Asylum, and now exhibited in this budding, they are superior in style and quality, £nd at a, proportionately • lower price than wythlng : that can be imported. But, alii these advantage*!, it la to theintsmst -of everyone to support an industry., which, employs? local labor, and is a direct. benefit to thebatcher, taker, farmer, mechanic, shopkeeper,? merchant, and. to all sections of:the. commu-,
