The nsual fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held last evening; presentir-the Mayor, Crs. McGregor; Middleditch; :/Reid, Menelaus, Dodson, and Miller. The Town Clerk read the follotring 1 correspondence Mr J. Robertson, asking the CouncUio inform him What amount was duei by himAb the GorporaUpn . for conveyance of lease of section No/ 140, as a demand had to . him for L 3. The letter was ordered to bp received.— Prom Corporation. Solicitor, in ’ refgrehceyto leases.. Ordered to be returned for explana-tion.—-From. Mr Sinclair* Treasurer of the Dunedin Voluuteer Fire r Brigade, informing the Council that he would: be willing tddriQ the Fire Brigade, one or two nights weekly. The Clerk was instructed to acknowledge the,same with .the. Council’s .thanks;— From Mr Austin, asking the Council to authorise Mr Joyce to retuifi hik deed which he had forwarded for the Council’s approval. On the motion of Cr. M’QeEoor ‘the lease srtis ordered to be rdturried;—From Mr F. | J. Sumner, holder pf fifty Corporation bonds, asking that, the amount of exchange payable at Melbourne be paid to bito. Granted.—From the residents, of South. Ward, asking that something might'be done t6 Fox street, which remains in its natural state; and from Mr J. Mackley, in heferehce to footpath along Harrington street. Referred to Works Committee. Cr. Miller moved - that a footpath. Be formed from Meridian street to Wickliff Teirace. Carried.—The same Councillor’s proposition that a site' be procured and a building erected for engine house and storeroom was also carried.
Cr. M ‘Gregor proposed that a committee, consisting of the Mayor, Crs. Reid and Asher, procure a tracing of the lend taken by the General Government from the Town Belt, and apply to the Government for Compensation for such land.—Carried. A-*.
