THE SERVANTS' HOME
To the Editor.
Sir,— l am informed that the ladies have collected, in aid of the above object, something over L4OO and that L2OO was given by the Provincial Government in consideration of the fact that the need was really largely created by the immigration system. The Government alas gaA’e a quantity of stone which has enabled the committee to build in a substantial manner. Both the vendor of the site and the architect of the building (Mr Wales) have treated the committee Avith great consideration, the latter giving his professional services.
I understand that some L6OO is likely to be required before the institution can be opened. Domestics themselves could render valuable aid if they were to seek the permission of their employers to be present at the entertainment on Tuesday evening.—l am, &c,, S, T. Dunedin. Dunedin, May 27.
