UNPOPULARITY OF THE QUEEN.
A London correspondent of the ‘Melbourne Argus’ writes, with reference to the publication of some doggrel verses on the Royal family, as follows : —lt is, perhaps, a sign of the direction of the “popular breath,” as respects the Queen, that such productions as these—and there are many such—meet with public encouragement. It is stated, on good aathority, that considerable fears were entertained and extraordinary precautions taken concerning Her Majesty’s reception at the opening of Parliament. And although there was no disturbance of any kind, she was very coldly received—indeed, never before so coldly, so far as I can remember.
