Permission was granted to the Otago Slate Quarry Company to erect a temporary office at the corner of Jetty street. A letter was received from the Town Clerk, Auckland, suggesting amendments in the Municipal Health Act.—Mr Massey : We have forwarded a copy of our new K unicipal Bill, which covers all these matters.
Messrs North and Sconllar wrote asking whether it was the Council’s intention to continue Manse street into Maclaggan street. Cr. Martin’s property).” The matter was left with the Works Committeee to arrange preliminaries. Mr Alex. Cairns forwarded a long letter oa street tramways, which, he stated, though novel, were simple in their working. Two lines would be used, placed in the centre of the street; and the Colonial gauge—3ft 6in —be adopted. Thousands could be daily conveyed from the Sandhills to the Water of Leith at a nominal cost, and the line could be constructed by the Corporation for L 2,400.

Messrs G. and J. A. Cook’s application on behalf of Mr G. Crowhnrst for the Council to release on old memorial of judgment has been agreed to at applicants' costs. The Public Works Committee recommended that no action be taken at present in the matter of the proposed work at Upper Maclaggan street, a memorial having been received petitioning against the work; that the Provincial Government be communicated with requesting them to form Crawford and Sattray streets to 1-J chains wdth where practicable ; that a steam roller be obtained at an estimated cost of L 1,200.
