Christchurch, May 20. The reduced freights to London are causing heavy wheat shipments to be made to that port. The receipts at the Waste Lands Office yesterday amounted to L 13,320. Mr Rolleston gives an unqualified contradiction to the rumor that he is going to take office under the Government as successor to Mr Cooper, Under-Secretary for the Colony.
Auckland, May 19. The right of the Revising Officer to reject the alphabetical list of ratepayers as claims to vote, was argued before the Revision Court to-day. It was decided that the return of name as ratepayer was a full legal qualification to be inserted on the roll under the Registration Amendment Act of last session.
Oamaru, May 20. A very sharp shook of earthquake, accompanied with a loud, rumbling noise, was felt here this morning at 4.30.
