CITY GUARDS' COMPETITION.
The second of the series of competions by members of the -No. 1 Company, for the purpose of selecting a representative team to fire against the Clutha and Tokomairiro Rifles on the Queen's Birthday, took place at the Anderson's Bay Butts this morning. It was originally intended to fire three matches, but an alteration was made making the ten highest aggregate scorers in last Saturday's and to-day's matches the representative team. - The weather was very blowy, necessitating aiming about 15ft or 20ft off the target. Sergt. Coxhead and Vol. Eohn, who did not put in an appearance last week, fired over the first stages of the match, the former making 27 and the latter 33 points. The ranges to-day were 200 yds and 600 yds; seven shots at each. Subjoined are the principal scores :
Captain Wales's cup to the highest aggregate scorer falls to himself, and the members of the company -will have to wrest it from him.
