ENCOURAGING NATIVE INDUSTRY.

To the' Editor,

■■ correspondent, “Housewife,” last ‘bight called the attention of, your readers to thfe ■‘circumstance that several of the Dunedib -drapers, by purposely abstaining from keeping in - stock the local manufactures of our two’woollen establishments, has a tendency to minimize the sale of such goods. Now, if I am correctly informed, those two establishments are either directly or indirectly the means of supporting some 600 souls L if not more, and it becomes a 1 question'whether it is not'of more im portance and of more benefit to the general public to support these labor-finding companies rather than any of those selfish drapers who ignore these our local industries. I have, therefore, to suggest that the woollen companies should advertise the names- of the drapers and tailors who keep their goods, and that the general public confine their purchases to their establishments. I have ten of a family, my drapers’ bills are consider•ble, and as they are paid monthly, I am a good customer to Messrs , but. I will be so no longer as 1 have given my wife and daughters to understand that they are not to purchase any goods at shops where our loeal manufactures are not kept. My family and I have a large circle of friends in the Province, and I promise that if the companies only advertise the names of the firms who do not keep their goods, I will use whatever influence I may possess to disuade my friends from purchasing any goods in their establishments, —I am, &c., Old Identity.
