The brigantine Yarra, from Melbourne, was towed to Dnnedin on Saturday afternoon by the s.s. Jane.
The steamers Shag, from Shag Point, Samson and Matau, from Oamaru, arrived on Saturday evening, and steamed to Dunedin.
Tbe ketch Franklin Belle, from Waikouaiti, arrived yesterday, and moored at the new peir to discharge twenty-glx bales of wool for the ship Bakaia.
The schooner Mary Ellen, witu a,full cargo of produce, from Eakanui, arrived yestorcUJ and sailed past the port to Dunedin. The cutter Jane, with cargo for Oamaru, saiibC last evening. Messrs M'Meckon, Blackwood’s splendid s.s. Arawata, from Nelson, Wellington, anti Lyttelton, arrived at 10.45 a.m. yesterday. The Albion Co.’s steamer Taiaroa arrived from Timaru early yesterday morning, and steamed alongside the ship Wild Deer to discharge 1,783 sacks of grain. Messrs Hougtou and Co.’s s.s. Express, with cargo and passengers, from the Bluff, arrived yesterday forenoon. She loft the Bluff at 10 p.m, on Saturday, towing out the ship Otaki, bound to Loudon.
The topsail schooner Jane Anderson hauled alongside the ship Wild Deer this morning to discharge 1,300 sacks of grain. She left Timaru on the 4th with a light S.W. wind, which continued until midnight on the sth, when it shifted to the northward and continued until arrival at 10 p.m. yesterday. The schooner Tauvanga, with a cargo of grain from Timaru, sailed up last evening as for as Pulling Point, where she anchored until this morning, when she passed up to Dunedin on the flood tide. The s.s. Eingarooma, having discharged her Dunedin portion of cargo, took her departure this afternoon from the railway pier for Nelson, via Lytte ton and Wellington. The schooner Cora, after on absence of nearly three mouths, returned to port this morning with 772 sacks of grain shipped at Timaru for transhipment to tho ship Wild Deer. She left Timaru yesterday forenoon, and hod northerly winds along the coast to arrival.
The steamer Alhambra is now again ready for sea, and was to leave Melbourne for Hokitika on the 15th inst. under the command of Captain Muir, the defective plate being replaced with a new piece 18in by lOin. At the same time the vessel was subjected to a rigid examination by the Government engineer, who has reported that the Alhambra is now sound in every part. The Union Company’s fine steamer Taupo, with cargo and forty passengers, arrived from Northern Ports at 10.45 a.m. yesterday. She loft the Mamtkau at 4 p.m. on the 2nd, called at Taranaki, Ntlson,Picton, Wellington,andLyttolton leaving tho last-mentioned port at 4 p.m. nest day. We thank Mr Ponsouby (purser) for report and exchanges. Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood’s ;s.s. Eingarooma, with the Otago portion of Ihe Suez mail, arrived alongside the [railway pier at ('■ a.m. yesterday from Melbourne via the Bluff. Her mails were shortly landed and conveyed to Dunodin by special train. Tho Eingarooma cleared Port Phillip Heads at 3 p.m. on the Ist; passed Swan Island at 11 a.m. on tho 2nd; encountered a strong W.S.W. gale, with high sea until pausing the Solander at £».50 a.m, on the sth; arrived at the Bluff nt 3 p.m. After discharging 160 tons of cargo, left again for Pert Chalmers at 5 p.m, on the 6th, nud arrived as above. We thank her purser (Mr Jugo) for report and Melbourne exchanges. The brig Prairie, with a full cai'go of produce from Hobart Toivd, waa towed up on Saturday afternoon by the Geelong. Captain Dillnar reports leaving Hobart Town on the 28th ult., with a hg.it westerly wind, which freshened. Passed Pompoy’s Pillar next morning; on the 80th the wind increased to a heavyJgale with high sea ; towards evening itbauled southerly with tremendous squalls, when she was hove-to for fourteen hours. The gale haying slightly abated, she was kept away, the wind being then strong from tho W.S.W., which continued, and passed the Traps on the morning of the u.orning of the sth, and tho Nuggets same evening arriving off the Heads at daylight on the 6th, and towed up as above. She will discharge her cargo at Dunedin. °
