Friday, May 6. (Before E. ff. Ward, Esq., and A. Mercer. Esq., J.P.’s.)
Drunkenness.— Patrick Ryan and Robt. Pearson were each fined ss, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment.
Insulting Language. —James Cox was charged by Catherine Eipp with using abusive language towards her in High street, Caversham. Defendant had called complainant a Irish cow.—The Bench bound over defendant to keep the peace for six months in his own recognisance of L2O. Illegitimacy. -Margt. Babbit, of Caversham, charged John King, engineer, with refusing to support her male child, twelve months’ old, of which he was alleged to be the father. Mr Denniston defended.—On the case being called on complainant stated that there was no necessity to proceed with the matter, as defendant had promised to take the child.—Defendant flatly denied having made any such promise.—Complainant then stated that her witnesses were not here, and the case was adjourned for a week,
