The brigantine Tarra, with a full cargo, from Melbourne, was towed up late last evening by the s,s. Jane, and anchored below the shipping, but being of a light draft of water she will discharge her cargo at Dunedin. The Yarra left Melbourne on the 27th ult., had strong S.W. winds for four days, and hove-to for a few hours in the Straits, the barometer being down to 29.10. After the gale abated, she had moderate winds until making Stewart’s Island on the Ist iust., thence to arrival had light northerly and westerly winds. The s.s. Wallabi, after an absence of nearly twelve months, returned to Port late last evening from Wanganui, and steamed up to Duuediu. The schooner Janet Ramsay, having completed her necessary repairs, made another start early this morning for the Bluff, but there being a strong S.W. wind blowing, she will anchor at the Heads until the weather moderates.

The Albion Company’s steamer Taiaroa, with seven passengers and a full cargo of grain, 1,446 bags of which is for transhipment to the ship Margaret Galbraith, arrived from Timaru at 7 this this morning, which port she left at 7 p.m, yesterday. She had strong southerly winds to arrival, and steamed alongside the Margaret Galbraith to discharge.

There was a race between the two Oamaru traders this week. TheMatau left Oamaru at 10.51 on Tuesday morning, and the Samson at 10.55. The Mataw reached Port Chalmers exactly half-au-hour before the other boat. On the up-trip the Matau also proved herself the faster-going vessel. The Australasim Pacific Company’s steamer Colima, for San Francisco via Northern Ports, Kandavu, and Honolulu, embarked her passengers immediately after the arrival of the 10.15 train from Dunedin this morning, when she proceeded down the harbor and crossed the bar shortly after noon and came to anchor, her mails being conveyed on board by the s s. Jane, which left the railway pier immediately after the arrival of the 8 p.m, train from Dunedin.

The Union Company’s steamer Wanganui, from Lyttelton via intermediate ports, arrived at 10 this morning and steamed alongside the hulk Esk to coal. She left Lyttelton at 1 p.m. ou the 2nd, called at Akaroa, and arrived at Timaru at 8 a.m. on the 3rd; took on board, besides a quantity of other cargo, 831 sacks of grain, and left at 7 p.m. same day ; had strong southerly winds to arrival.
