, fj l . o regular mooting of the abovo Council was bold last night, when thoie wero prosout the Mayor* Councillors M'Kinlay, M'Gregor, Ashor, Reid, Menelans, Middlcditeh, and Miller. correspondence was read:—Prom Mr M'Gxll offermg to lease section 141 at L 7 per. annum, which was accepted; from hit Blair, C.E., informing the Council that the waterworks were progressing very favorably, and that if the weather continued fine the embankment would be finished m. about two months. Prom the Inspector of Works, in reference to the footpath between Laing and Bum streets, that it would be useless to repair the same, he recommending that the bonk be cut down to extend the footpath. The clerk was instructed to write to Messrs Allen and Kmgstreet, requesting them to remove the debns on Maeandrew terrace.
Cr. Asher obtained permission to employ two of the day men for a few hours in sounding round the site for the baths to complete the plan of the same. It was decided to call vhe District Engineer’s attention to the dangerous and incomplete state of the fence round Flagstaff Hill, and he was instructed to make arrangements fer the use of one of the church hells in case of fire.
