Saturday, April 29. (Bfefore K. Ramsay, Esq., J.P.)
Drunkenness.— Ellen Hesman, alias Carbery, David Jones, and Thomas Burgess (who, while drunk, rolled down the Dowling street steps and severely injured himself), were each lined ss, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. Peter M'Kenzie was charged with being drunk while in charge of a horse and cart. Inspector Mallard asked that an example be made of defendant. He was a nightmen, and was in the habit of getting drunk and leaving his horse unprotected in the street. He was lined 10s, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. Ri . ivs Conduct.— Daniell Barrett was charged with conducting himself in Rattray street iu a manner calculated to provoke a breach of the peace.— Constable M‘Donald stated that his attention was called to a crowd in Rattray street yesterday forenoon. Accused was standing in the middle of it in a lighting attitude —Accused: Oh, yes, I’m a great fighting man, ain’t 1 ? You ought to work like I do. lam a contractor for digging “potatoes” at Mosgiel— Inspector Mallard stated that prisoner was drunk when he was brought to the lock-up. Accused > God help us. I was as sober as a judge. Give me this chance and I’ll never get drunk or get invo a fighting position again.—His Worship discharged accused with a caution. —Barrett ; And 1 say much j obliged. (Laughter.) j
