WASTE LANDS BOARD.
The following business, for which we had not room in last night’s issue, was transacted at yesterday’s meeting:— Lessees of land at Preservation Inlet for coal-mining requested a rebate of expenses incurred in fencing up coal mines. Assignment not yet completed. Peter M ‘lntyre applied for leave, under the 16th clause, to occupy the quarry reareve adjoining section 14, block 5, Anderson’s Bay district. Refused. Connell and Moodie, for Joseph Preston, applied to purchase under agricultural lease 3U6 acres, section No, 1, block 7, Swinburn district. Referred to the Government. Mr Short submitted a statement with reference to an application by Mr M. Malaghan that a Crown grant might be issued to him for section 29, block 7, Queenstown, called for on the 12th instant. Read. Messrs J. Harding and Smythiea and Son applied for leave to mine on 500 acres at north-west corner of site granted to J. Harding and Co., for the purpose of extracting felspar. Protection granted for twelve months.
Q. F. C. Browne stated he had abandoned the land at Havelock, leased to him for coalmining, in consequence of an| embankment having been erected bv Government which flooded his mine. He objected to pay the present year’s rent.—To be allowed to give up his lease. Captain F. W. M ‘Kenzie applied for rebate of rent paid on run 168, as per covenant with his Honor the Superintendent. Referred to the Chief Commissioner to report upon.
Frederick H. Evans, on behalf of Andrew Nelson, applied for coal lease of ten acres land at Roxburgh, adjoining Smith’s lease. Postponed for further information. John Russell intimated his intention of Purchasing sections 2 and 10, block 8, Toi'ois district, instead of accepting a lease for the other seven years, as provided by clause 64, sub-section 5, “ Waste Lands Act, 1872.” Referred to the Ranger; none of conditions were fulfilled. Applications to purchase under deferred payment lease Robert M'Cracken, sections 11, 12, 80, 14, and 81, block 7, over ; George S. Walker, section 1, block 5, TuapekaEast district ; Martin Ryan, sections 3, 4, 7, block 5, Waitahuna East. Ranger Yalpy reported, in terms of the Forest Tree Planting Encouragement Act, 1871, on application by Donald Reid to come under the provisions of the said Act. Resolved, that Mr Reid has complied with the said Act, and that the Ranger certify in terms of regulations under Forest Tree Planting Encouragement Act, ’7l and ’72. W. H. Miller applied to purchase, at LI per acre, sections 17 and 18, block 8, Hillend district.—Ranger to report. Thomas Smith applied for a license under the 161st clause of the Act, to occupy a small island in the Waikouaiti River adjoining his property.—Ranger to report. Mr J. H. t,arris, on behalf of Mr J. F. Robertson, applied that section 6, block 8, Crookston, should be put up for sale as land of especial value.—Approved,
