KAIKORAI AND ROSLYN.

To the Editor

SlE,—lt must be veiy gratifying to the large population now settled ontheKaikorai, Hill to learn that active steps are being taken by influential residents in the district to obtain a direct road to town, branching off near the Shepherds’ Arms. Such a convenience to town, has been of late sorely wanted, and is every day becoming more loudly called for. Mr Kettle and Mr Findlay, through whose ground the road is proposed to go, are, I am assured, more than anxious to assist the project in every way they can, and all that remains to bo done to have the thing started is to call a public

meeting of parties more immediately inter ested to settle the exact route of the best line of road. It appears to me that the best way to take it would be down past the comer of Mr Todd’s section, because there is already p, roadway laid off there going past the southern portion of the township, which extends already six chains in the direction wanted and stops. An easy gradient below that turning to the right through Mr Kettle s, would lead out by a roadway already formed to the Belt, after which little has to be done to fit on to London street. As Mr Mackenzie has explained in your issue of the 20th inst., there ean be no doubt such a road could be had at very little cost, and it would benefit the entire distriet—raising property, in many cases, over 50 per cent. It is to be hoped, therefore, that a public meeting will at once be convened to carry out the matter.—l am, &c., A Resident ik Selkirk. April 27.
