SHE RAN THEM OUT.

Under this headng the ‘Bruce Herald’ has the following;—“ Bailiffs need not expect much sympathy, no matter what misfortunes befall them while they are ‘ professionally’ engaged. A few days ago two young men left Milton to take possession of some premises occupied by a woman who lives several miles from the township. They meant to pass their time pleasantly, for they took with them some refreshments, a pack -of cards, and a box of dominoes. When they arrived at their destination the woman was out, and they effected an entrance without much difficulty. Having made everything secure, and before they took an inventory of the furniture and effects, they made a roaring fire, put the kettle on,and lit their pipes for a whiff before tea. Suddenly they heard a series of bangs at the door, and before they could recover from their consternation, the owner of the premises burst in and gave one of the bailiffs a well-directed blow which floored him. The ether man tried to get under a bed, but before he could do so, the woman laid a .horsewhip over a sensitive part of his person, with such vigor that he bawled for mercy. In a few moments she succeeded in clearing the house, and the bailiffs returned to Milton considerably crestfallen. The man who received the horsewhipping has not been sitting down much since the occurrence.”
