THE FIRE BRIGADE AND THE CITY COUNCIL.
x At a special meeting of the Fire Brigade held at the Engine Station last evening, it was resolved that the following reply should be sent to the City Council, in answer to theirs of the 18th inst.:— That a letter be sent to the City Council informing thnm that a special meeting of the Brigade was held last evening to reconsider their letter of the 18th inst., the same being an answer to one sent by the Brigade asking the Council to contribute towards the expenses of sending a detachment of the Brigade to compete at the demonstration of firemen at Ballarat on the 23cd and 24th of May next, and in reply, after duly considering the objection as stated in the letter (which is to the effect that in the opinion of the Council the yonth of the Brigade precludes their members from taking port in the competition ref erred to), the members of the Brigade wish to informyour ConnOil that they have every confidence in the men Who are chosen to represent them; and judging also from the very liberal support the Brigade has already received from the United Insurance Companies, and also from the citizens generally, and at the same time, taking it as a fact that the Wellington Brigade will he represented on that occasion, the members of our Brigade can with confidence ask your Council to reconsider their decision and support us on the present occasion, not only by viewing the proposed visit with favor, but by contributing a sum of money to enable the representatives to carry oat the undertaking with credit to themselves and to the City that sends them.
