Drunkenness. Charles Barton was fined ss, with the usual alternative. Vaorancv. —James Keith, who in the dock presented a most pitiable sight* was charged by the police with having no visible means of support. In defence accused stated that he was a seafaring man, and arrived by the Alhambra as a cabin passenger on her last trip. When he landed he had between L6O and'L7o ; and coming down from Dunedin last week he lost himself in the br>«d. for forty-.eight hours, during which time he hurt himself with a stick, which caused the blood that appeared on his clothes.—Constable Livhfstfn deposed that .yesterday morning he noticed the accused, who seemed to be slightly insane, and his clothes

Witowi looked him up, when he was supplied with food ana' received medical attendance,Drysdale stated thathehadavawnnftd arinnßaa and found him to be suffering from drink ahd ooVored with scratches. The whole of his clothes were saturated with Hood. Upon questioning him, accused stated that he had hurthimself by falling on a stick in the bush. Witness could not discover any injuries. —His Worship remanded the prisoner to Dunedin gaol for .three days, in order that inquiries might be made as to his statement and to receive medical treatment.
