ADMITTING THE SHIP WELLINGTON TO PRATIQUE.

The action of Dr Diysdale in refusing to admit the ship Wellington to pratique until the Board of Health had been communicated with has received the thorough approval of the Immigration Minister, under whose notice the matter was officially brought! Under date the 6th inst., Mr Haughton, the Under-Secretary for the Department, writes to Dr Drysdale;—

I am instructed by the Hon. Major Atkinson to inform you that he Auite approves of the action taken by you under the circumstances, it being a matter of the moat vital importance to avoid, so far as precautionary measures con avail, the possibility pf contagion from the clothes or effects of persons who have been affected on the voyage, or of immigrants being lauded in whom the disease may he latent. The custom at this port has been in all cases where a case of typhoid fever has occurred during the voyage to detain the ship in quarantine until thoroughly cleansed and painted throughout the immigrants’ deck, to land all their fittings, and to keep the immigrants at the station until their clothes, bedding, Ac., have been thoroughly washed and disinfected. Instructions will at once be issued to the effect that immigrant ships are in no case to be inspected after dark; and that the Commissioners Mb to defer to the opinion of the medical officer of the Board upon questions entirely dependent upon the right understanding of sanatory laws.
