As the public naturally wish to be informed exactly of the real position of the proposed block laud sales, the following may be relied upon :On Wednesday afternoon Messrs Cargill and Anderson, P, Neil, and other runbolders interested, lodged their applications to purchase the whole of 64,000 acres declared upon for sale. Yesterday Mr J W. Larnach applied for the whole of the 64,0b? acres. It is not for us to scan motives, but the consequence is to compel the offering of the* laud at auction ; for had the land been withi. n Hundreds, and Messrs Cargill and Andersoil, & c -» the on l.V applicants, they must have been, declared by law, the purchasers. As *t now stands, the Provincial Executive have managed to shift the onus from their shoulders to those of the Waste Land Board, and, as insinuated by the ‘ Daily Times,’ are said to have obtained the Chief Surveyor’s opinion in favor of the sale. We doubt it. More of it to-morrow.
