FIRES.
Another fire oocurred on the farm el MesMs William and James Christie, Lower •Harbor, yesterday morning, by which three stacks were destroyed. The origin of the he Btackß insured The ‘ North Otago Times ’of yesterday reports what appears to be a case of wilful incendiarism, resulting in the destruction of two stacks of oats, on the Totara Station of the N.Z.and A. 1 and Company. The stacks in question are in sight of Totara House, and situated in a paddock away from any house or buildings. At about nine o’clock on Saturday night they were observed to be on fire, and although endeavors were to that end, the effort to extinguish the flames failed, it being only with difficulty that the fire was prevented, from spreading to some stacks of wheat situated in the same paddock, and but a short distance off. There can be no doubt tbat the stacks were intentionally fired. The stacks destroyed contained 1,000 bushels grain, and would be worth about LIOO. They were insured, but we have not heard in what office.
