The amount of revenue received at the Customhouso on Roods cleared for consumption this day was I 882 19a od.
Mr Henry Driver (on behalf of the New Nenland Loan and Mercantile Agency Company) reports for the week ending April 12; — W°9l.—Our London office, under date of the Bth, reports tho wool siles as having opened flatly. Sales comprise about 200,000 bales; 23,000 bales have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct. The opening catalogues contained 8,000 bales. Compptition is decreasing, and nuotn^iop * m *u average Ojd to Id lower than at the opening, the principal decline being in medium and inferior. A subsequent telegram of the 10th, from Messrs Helmuth,
Schwartz, and Co., reports a further decline equal to 2sd for washed fleece and 2d for greasy ; oioss-breds neglected. We were not prepared for so heavy a fall in pilce, though prevous advices had anticipated some reduction. Those growers who took advantage of the local market can now co igratulate themselves that they made sure of a fair price, rather than take a risk which will end iu a serious loss. Only a few stragglers’ wool is offeriug in this market, which will sell at about lsd lower. Sheepskins were dull on account of the fall iu wool, but being principally shorn skins, the values per skin are not so perceptible. We had fair competition at our auction this afternoon. Butchers’ shorn skins, 21d to 22d; lull wool mcriao-', 4s 6d; lambs. Is 9d to la lOd Hides were in good demand 0.l late quotations. Butchers’ green, 20s to 21s; medium wet salted, 16s to 16s 8d; calfskins, 2s to 4s each.
Grain.—Wheat fully mnintaius lost week’s quotations—4s 4d to 4s 5d for medium, and 4s 6d to 4s 7d for prime milling samples. Fowls’ wheat much wanted up to 4s, Oats are ready sale; good, clean parcels for shipping at Is 9d to Is lOd; milling. Is lid to 2s. Melbourne advices quote good Tartarian seed in demand; also, seed at steady rates, equal to Is 6d to Is 9d here. Barley is moving in quantities; choice heavy qualities, ss; good to prime malting, 4s 6d to 4s 9d: inferior neglected.
QBEYMOUTH COAL COMPANY. A special meeting of the Dunedin shareholders in the above company yesterday was attended by some thirty gentlemen, and presided over by Mr John Davie. The impression seemed to bo general that it was intended to make another call at the annual of the 10th pros. It was stated that L 3 of the L 5, which was the full amount of each share, had been paid up. He also referred to the great extravagance which had characterised the early history of the mine through bad management, and Mr Ramsay, who spoke in despondent terms of the future prospects of the mine, moved—“ That, in the opinion of the shareholders in theGreymouth Coal Company in Dunedin present at this meeting, the general meeting of shareholders called for the 10th instant be postponed for one month, to enable the shareholders to receive and consider the annual report; and farther, that the notice of payment of the twelfth call be withdrawn for the pre--8 wbich was carried unanimously. It was decided to send Mr John Blair to Greymouth, as the deputy of the Dunedin shareholders.
