GAMBLING ADVERTISEMENTS.
To the Editor.
Sir,— ln reference to your exposition of the laws affecting the advertising of “ foreign and illegal lotteries,” pray permit me to point out that I have seen both descriptions of lotteries advertised heretofore-in Dunedin newspapers. As regards the “limitations” mentioned in your article, I may briefly state that the Act of William IV. forbidding such advertisements is in force in New Zealand, and the Act 8 and 9.Victoria —a date equivalent to 1845-6—is hot in force hero, the legal line having been drawn at a.d. 1846.—1 am, etc., Lex. Dnnedin, April 12.
[We do not see that the fact of an Act being “in force in New Zealand ” alters its provisions. The question is where the penalty is recoverable.— Ed. ‘E.S.’]
