Matau, s.s„ 101 tons, Urquart for Oamam, The Union Company’s steamerWanganui returned from her usual trip to Lyttelton, via intermediate ports, last evening, and steamed alongside the new pier to discharge wool. She left Lyttelton at 12.15 p.m. on the 4th ; Akaroa at 8.30 p.m., and called at Timaru, but owing to the thick weather and heavy sea had no communication with the shore, and proceeded to Oamaru, where she took onboard 388 bales of wool, leaving for Port Chalmers at 2 p.m. on the 6th. Experienced thick weather from Oamaru. The steam laumh Tire, with Mr Simpson, the Harbor Board's engineer, and Captain Logan, pro. ceeded to the Heads yesterday afternoon and took soundings upon the inner bar. but owing to the sea being too rough, they wore unable to lake sound* mgs of the outer bar.
