WASTE LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Board was held this morning ; present—The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Butterworth, Clark, Reid, and Strode. Messrs Connell and Moodie applied to purchase section 71, Totara Island, at the upset price, or that it be again submitted to auction. To be advertised. Messrs Bathgate and Buchanan, on behalf of Mr George Miller, applied to purchase sections 3, block 17, and 1, block 16, Sbotover, held under deferred payment lease, the Judge having given his decision in the matter of occupation. To be granted in accordance with the Judge’s opinion, Mr R. T. Wheeler requested that a Crown grant should be issued to his client, Mr M. Mallaghen, for section 29, block 7, Queenstown. Postponed, Mr James Thompson, of Roxburgh, requested that the deferred payment section of land in block 5, Teviot, might be again thrown open for application, as tbe present applicant had neither fenced nor cultivated the land as required by the Act. To be ex--amined by the Ranger. Mr James Griffiths requested that the Board would refund to him threepence per acre of . deposit paid to the District Land Officer on application for sections 28 and 29, block 2, Highlay district. No claim. Mr William Morris, secretary for the Switzers Mining Association, requested that the 13th clause of the Regulations for the management of stock depasturing on Hundreds should be altered. The District Land Officer, Clyde, asked the opinion of the Board as to whether a deferred payment occupant, whose land is divided by an intermediate section, could comply with the conditions imposed by the Act by residing on and cultivating only one of the sections so cut off. The Board were of opinion that residence on one and improvements to the extent of the Act were all that is necessary on the part of deferred payment settlers. A letter was read from the District Land Officer, Clyde, with reference to applications by Messrs Anderson and Sims, asking why the deposits received from them were not paid to the revenue.

Mr James Buchanan stated that the land he applied for at Evan’s Flat for coal mining purposes is sometimes under water with flooding of the river, and that he was the only applicant for a lease in that locality. The District Land Officer to be asked if he would advise the Board to issue a license in this case.

Mr John Morris applied to purchase an acre of land on the north side of the Waitahuna Main, Gully Hoad, outside of the township, and stated that he had spent L 25 on the land. Referred to thfe District Land Officer.

Mr John Thompson applied to purchase, at LI per acre, section 91, block 5, TuapekaEast. Approved. Mr Charles Lowe applied to exchange agricultural lease for deferred payment lease on block 7, Shotover District. Approved. The District Land Officer, Naseby, forwarded a plan of the water-races for which certificates have been issued, in order that the licenses may now be prepared. Approved. The Warden at Lawrence asked the Board whether a certificate should be issued by bim to Mr P. C. Neill for 536| acres, 103£ acres on another part of his run, or whether he should issue a certificate for 640 acres as applied for under agricultural lease. Mr Neill may purchase the 103£ acres under clause 50 by giving his own consent to the sale.

Mr Julius Wenkheim applied to be allowed to lease section 23, block 20, Shotover district, free of rent for first seven years on his fulfilling certain conditions, and at a yearly rent of 10s per acre per annum for second seven years. Refused. The District Land Officer, Lawrence, transmitted a request by Mr Squires on behalf of Mr H, Robins that a road line should be recorded on section 3, block 3, Tuapeka East, previous to its sale by auction, to give him access to his property. Refused.
