•aTIio ship Mauleaden commenced to discharge her cargo this morning into the railway trucks. Messrs M‘Meehan, Blackwood, and Co.'s s.a. Otago, with 240 tons 6f cargo and fifty-one pas. seUgeis, from MelbbUrhe, via the Bluff, arrived ildugidde the railway pier at 0.15 this morning. From the Bluff had strong winds. We thank Mr Birch for report and other favors. The a.s.’ Eosby, while hauling away from the railway pica’ to the hulk yesterday afternoon, to finish putting out her coal, had just lot go her anchor when a tremendous 'SqUal I of wind struck her, and the chain snapped elose to her hawse pipe. The other michor w. s mmediately let, go, and she was shortly after moored securely at the hulk. The whalers ChancC and Splendid have been driven into Port William by the strong S. W. gale now blowing.: The Chance has been ont about a month, and dneiug the whole time the weather has been very foggy, which prevented them from sailing any distance. I'hey fastened to one whale, but owing to the line parting it was lost. The Splendid did not reach thojground before th<f gale cqhipolled her to return.
