THE FEMALE REFUGE.
To the Editor, . _: Siß,— The defence of the management of the ECmale Refuge, which appeared in yoUr issue of last Saturday, Is not satisfactory. Jn their great anxiety to make the institution Self-sup-pbrtzngj the committee seem to have'lost* sight of the principal object for which the: Eetuge was set dn' foot, viz., the reclamation of the fallen., . I wbuld suggest that the present matron should have charge of the laundry, and that the committee should try if they cannot meet with a lady who would be willing, for Christ’s sake, to devote herself to the far higher work of the reclamation r-f the inmates. Surely, in Otago, or if not in Otago, then in New Zealand, a My qualified for the w rk could be found ? Were this done, I f j el sure that if an appeal were made to the public for addit : onal pecuniary assistance, it would meet with a ready response.—l am, &c,, _ ~ _ ■ • E. G-. Edwabds, Si. Paul s Parsonage, March 20.
