TRAINING NOTES.

This was a busy morning at the Forbury. The course being still open to ,trainers, and the weather mild, a large number of horses were-on the ground and some good work was done. There was a large crowd" of visitors, including the inevitable dogs, and altogether the scene was very animated. Mr Keenan’s three horses as usual led off. Gamecock going twice round the course in his clothing at a fair pace, but walking verygingerly when pulled up. Jack the Flat and wild Manx Boy were stripped, the former going a strong two-mile gallop, Manx Boy joining in at the last mile. Bob Ray next showed up with Tattler, Tadmor, Darnel O’Rorke, Tommy Dodd, and Cloth of Gold. First of the lot Tadmor and Tommy Dodd stripped and went a slashing gallop twice round the course. Tadmor went very free, and had apparently the best of it at the finish, but I fancy the steeplechaser was not ready let out. Several watches were put on this gallop, the results varying from Smin 68seo to 4min 7seo for the two miles. Daniel O’Rourke then led Tattler and. Cloth of Gold twice rouud in good style. The chcsnut seems as fit and goes as well as any of the five, but Tattler requires a resolute rider and a lot of jamming to get him at bis’best. Amohia, Guy Fawkes, and Korari were brought out, but the filly only walked. Guy Fawkes and Korari were treated to a mile or soon the tan, not very fast. The former is going so well that he is beginning to be fancied a little for the Cup with all his weight. Metrybird bod a short spin on the tan, ondSeabird followed her stable companion’s example a little later on. Dan O’Brien uncovered Fishhook and Haphazard and sent them about a mile and'three.quaiterson the course, but the colt soon had his mate in difficulties. Fishhook has certainly improved a great deni, and goes freer and stronger than he did a week ago, bat still I can’t see why he should have the call iu the betting. Auckland. Kate and the cbesnut gelding Glengarry ’ (iu the Maiden Plate) went two mile? and a quarter with Sir William, all strip[.ed ; Fakoha, who is just off the grass, going the last mile with them. Qlenatrho Cup outsider all the way, but Auokffatc seemed to have lost a good deal of her pace. Monaghiin’s lot included Templeton, Elfin King, Merry Monarch, Steamer, Reclaimed,’and Pungawerewero. Beauntreuss did a little work yesterday, but she is out of all form. Merry Monarch had only walking exercise. Pungawerewere aud Elfin Bang started, together, and after going a mile" were joined by Templeton, who finished the next mite with them. Puugawerewere still goes powerfully, stud with a tremendous stride. Elfin King. Las h.t.'i a good deal -taken off him since he came il<-v.jipbeve,.ft}id in. rather fine". Templeton looks ; bound, cud iagiaduully doing more -cork daily,’but I think , be will-not live long iu the Gup race with fist ■2lb up. Steamer and Reclaimed (in the Bolling Race) were also stripped aud went a mile. Banjb had a stiff two mile and a-half gallop round the

course, whiLUks Black hurtle racer Theodore mop fined himdorto the tan. Eory o*More and King Philip were looked for with some interMt, u the former had been driven back in the betting market, and the latter ie alao a little leas firm. Boxy had been badly shod a short time beak, and his feet suffered in ooaseqtuenee, but he is getting all right again, and the Bpell Vlll perhaps do him good instead of harm. His owner hacked him this morning to win L6OO more, so there can't be much the matter with him. King Philipp with. Batty ups was stripped and sent a fine gallop—two miles and a quarter. He picked up Lyndon after going a mile, but was running away from him at every stride, though Batty had hold of his head all the time. George Cutts gave Parawhenua and Ariel a gallop twice round at a clipping pace', iu fact, it was the fastest gallop of the morning. The is in fine fettle, and will take a lot of beating for the Publicans’ Handicap. Ariel, also, shapes very well; ‘but the whip had to be used to him to keep him with his stable companion. Bight Bower had another turn with Wee Lad, going two miles at a rattling pace, but sweating a good deal when he came in. Mischief did two miles in clothing, and Hercules, who arrived at Porter’s yesterday, had a walk on the tan. The hurdle<racer Ooqaet>to*was taken>twioe round the training' ground and over the hurdles by an old up-country fencer named Charlie. She does not appear to possess tunefe toot, nor is she a clean jumper. Kildare did not show up.
