. the Editor. Sffij—Attention has recently been drawn in the newspapers to Ihe subject of art unions, find the public warned as to the nature of the various schemes. Not only this, but a firm in the City was recently brought bef< re the Mayor’s Court for conduc'ing a scheme of this kind, which disposed of works of art only. Wbi'e, however, public attention was drawn to siese, it is curious to note that not a word was said, with reference to & grand sweep, und-r the fianie of a soite*, which is being got up on ihe forthcoming Dunedin races. Task'you, sir, fot information as to why bond fide art unions meet with toch determiiied o, po4tion, and a lottery (which as only an inducement to Squander money foolishly) be allowed to take place without a Word stid about it.
