Sydney, March 14; Nearly 500 immigrants arrived at Somerset yesterday, and 500 Chinese at Cookfcowh froth Hong Kong. A steamer, supposed to be the Purham, from London, passed Cape Otway yesterday. March 16. The Government carried the second . reading of the. Education Bill by a majority of four. A scene ensued and - the galleries had to be closed. Melbousne, March 16. It is stated that Mr Hugh Deckwell, a well-known land agent, largely connected with building societies, is in difficulties. His liabilities are said to be LBO,OOO, hut it is thought that his assets when realised will more than cover that amotint.
