EARTHQUAKE AT KAKANUI MOUTH.
We learn that a very violent “ quake ” was felt at Kakantii Mouth at 11 a.m. yesterday. The chimneys at Stock’s Devonshire Hotel, which had been rebuilt and strengthened after the shock on the morning of the 26th February were again thrown down. Other damage was done, and the inhabitants were very much frightened; some of them, indeed, affirming that the shock yesterday morning was almost as violent As the one felt there at 9 a.m. on the 26th February. The clocks were stopped in nearly all the houses by yesterday morning’s shock. A very severe shock was felt at Kakanui Mouth at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, by which the walls of the smoke hotitte belonging to the New Zealand Meat Preserving. Company (one of the strongest stone buildings in the township) were rent from tbp td bottom.—-‘N. Gj liinw.’ •' l -- ! * y
