Samson, p.s., 124 tons, Edie, from Oamaru, Passengers : Mesdnmea Walkom (2), Watson, Richards, and seven children, Peynsan, seivont, and three children. Gillies and son, Messrs Boot, M'Gavin, Lindray, Johnson, Walkom ; thh ty in the steerage. March 9.—Wanganui, s.s., 173 tons, Christian, from Timaioi. Passenger’s: Mr Hill and one in the steerage. Taiaroa, S.s., 228 tons. Stewart, from Timaru. Passengers: Mesdames Frazer, Plante and three children; Mieses Frazer (2),. Captain Coin, Messrs M’Pherson, Laing, Preston, Frazer ; fifteen in the steerage. Beautiful Star, s.s., 146 tons, Petersou, frota Lyttelton, via intermediate ports. sailed. March B.—Express, s.s., 136 tons, Frazer, for the Bluff Harbor. The s.s. Express sailed last night for Bluff Harbor. The s.s. Shag, from Shag Point, arrived yesterday afternoon and passed the port to Dunedin, The schooner Atlantic, with a cargo of timber from Auckland, arrived yesterday afternoon, and passed the port to Dunedin with a fine N.E. breeze. The Union Company’s p.s. Samson arrived last evening from Oamaru and steamed alongside the new pier to discharge wool.. Her passengers were conveyed to Dunedin by the p.s. Golden Ago. The Union Company’s s.s. Wanganui, with cargo and passengers, returned early this morning from Timaru. She left there at 5 p.m., arriving as above.

The New Zealand shipping Company’s ship Waimato shipped tho last of her Homeward cargo this afternoon. As neatly the whole of her sous are bent her preparations for sea will soon be completed, and she will sail for London on the advertised date, Saturday next. She is in fine trim for the passage. The Albion Company’s s.s. Taiaroa left Timaru at 8.15 p.m. on the Bth, and aatived at Port’Cl. aimers at 6 a.m. to-day. Tho Union Company’s a.e. Beautiful Star returned from Lyttelton, via intermediate ports, at midnight on the Bth inst.. She left Lyttelton at 6 40 p.m. on the oth, arrived nt Afeavoa at 2 a.m. next mornig; left again at 5.30 a.m., and arrived at Timaru at 5..40 p.m.j remained there until 11 a.m. on the Bth, and arrived as above, 1 having experienced flue weather during the trip.

Napier, March B.—There was a Court of Inquiry to-day into the circnstanccs of the wreck of the Opotiki. The Court hom’d the evidence of Captain Morris, Colt, and Freeman, and gave a decision as follows“ It is not proved to the Court that either the loss, abandonment, or serious damage to the ship, or loss of life, occurred in this case from wrongful action of any certified officer, and under clause 15 of the Act these arc tho cases upon which we are called to adjudicate. We desire, however, to express onr opinion that the vessel was not in a seaworthy condition, and ought not to have gone to sea with the centre-board working so imperfectly.”
