PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.
The fiscal fortnightly meeting Was held last evenmg, mthe Town Hall, when there i were present— Thp Mayor, Crs. M'Kinley, Beid, M'Gregor. Miller, and Dodson. *
The following corrsspehdence was read:—From Messrs Macaasey and Kettle, in reference to the resolution passed at the last meeting of the Council, that, the confirmation of the' lease of the huge quarry . should stand .over for twelve months, which answer to them was most unsatisfactory, and they wished the Corporation to inform them definitely what course they intended to pursue with regard to the matter in order that tneix clients position might. be at once settled.— On the motion of Cr. M'Kinlat that the letter should he received, an amendment was moved by Mr Miiubb that the letter be received and considered, 100 years hence, Which was carried—From Cr. Usher, of the. Engineer Department, in reference to the proposed road to the cemetery, informing the., ;Conncu that a survey Would shortly be made, and the plans he submitted for the (approval of the .district . engineer.—From Messrs Mason and Ellis, local bellmen, urging the Council not to give an exclusive right’ ofbellringinig and hill-posting to any one person.—From Mr Boaz. proposing to lease a piece of ground near the bluff on Macandrew road at JA pec wntnm Referred to the Reserves Committee.—The Reserves Committee's recommendation Mr .Shields’ offer to lease a piece of ground opposite Dyson’s wharf, at the rate of L 4 per Mmnm he granted, was adopted.—The Committee alsoteoommended that Mr R. Scott’s offer to lease a piece of land on the north side of the bluff at Boiler Point at L 4 per annum, be grahtsdi but after obnsiderable discussion that clause of the report was not adopted. .■ r * , In reference to the water pipes, his Worship stated he had seen Mr. Blair, who informed him there would be little difficulty in laying the pipes along the railway line, and promised to send parti* colors at an early date. It was mentioned, in reference to certain summonses issued by the Inspector of .Works against Messrs Chick and Boaz, that they would be withdrawn on condition that those persons repaired the damage done to the footpaths. ’ The Council went into committee to some important subjects.
